Vol. 544 No. 2

Written Answers. - Prisoner Releases.

Jack Wall

Question:

122 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will receive day release or weekend release to visit his children; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28343/01]

The person referred to is serving a four year prison sentence, with the last 18 months suspended, for violent disorder. He is serving this sentence in the Midlands Prison and is due for release on 27 September 2002.

I am informed by the director general that the prison authorities are not aware of any compelling compassionate circumstances associated with this case and accordingly I do not propose to grant this person temporary release to visit his children at this stage. The issue of temporary release over the Christmas period will, however, be considered in the Midlands Prison at a local review meeting which is scheduled to take place in December.
