Vol. 544 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with two different issues. I propose to deal with these topics separately and call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices.

I have received notice from Deputy Owen and I call on her to state the matter.

I propose that the Dáil be suspended under Standing Order 31, to discuss a matter of immediate importance, namely the report of an interdepartmental group which is advocating the building of another terminal at Dublin Airport by Aer Rianta; and to allow the Minister for Public Enterprise to inform the Dáil of her proposals regarding these recommendations and any other pertinent issues relating to the development of Dublin Airport.

Having considered the matter fully, the Ceann Comhairle does not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

With regard to the second topic, I have received notice from Deputy Gormley and I call on him to state the matter.

I wish to have the business of the House suspended under Standing Order 31 to allow the Minister for State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government, Deputy Molloy, to address the issues raised by the Threshold annual report which outlines the true extent of Ireland's housing crisis, including the fact that local authority waiting lists have increased by almost 30% since 1999 while the number of houses built fell by 25%; that illegal evictions have increased by a massive 250%; and to allow the Minister to indicate that he will introduce the Housing (Private Rented Sector) Bill and other necessary measures to deal with the housing crisis.

Having considered the matter fully, the Ceann Comhairle does not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.
