Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

198 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Health and Children the position in relation to an Alzheimer's unit (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29093/01]

My Department has made inquiries of the North-Western Health Board regarding the development of an Alzheimer's unit at Carndonagh District Hospital, County Donegal. It is understood from the board that the design team brief has been completed and that a planning application for the unit was submitted to Donegal County Council in October. The county council required that some adjustments be carried out to the original plans and these have been completed by the board's architects. The plans have been resubmitted to the county council, whose final decision is awaited.

Noel Ahern

Question:

199 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of intensive care unit beds in Beaumont Hospital; if the number has been reduced in recent months; the reason for the reduction; the staff resources needed for each intensive care unit bed; if an estimate of the number of operations cancelled due to a shortage of intensive care unit beds can be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29094/01]

Responsibility for the funding of services at Beaumont Hospital rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has therefore asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the issues raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
