Vol. 544 No. 4

Written Answers. - Planning Applications.

John Gormley

Question:

226 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the actions she or her Department have taken regarding Mayo County Council's granting of a planning application (details supplied). [29157/01]

I am aware of the proposed development referred to by the Deputy.

Mayo County Council granted permission for the construction of the proposed development on 3 August 2001 subject to 66 conditions. My Department has evaluated the decision made by the council and resulting from that evaluation submitted an appeal to An Bord Pleanála on 3 September 2001 outlining certain concerns. A copy of my Department's submission has been forwarded to the Deputy for his information. In addition and resulting from an invitation from An Bord Pleanála to comment on other appeals submitted, my Department made a further submission on 8 October 2001 and a copy is again included for information purposes. As the matter now rests with An Bord Pleanála, I do not propose, in the interest of fairness to all interested parties, to comment further.

The Deputy will, of course, be aware that the granting of planning permission in any case is a matter solely for the relevant planning authority and An Bord Pleanála.
