Vol. 544 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fisheries Protection.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

100 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will ensure that, in its work on the development of the oyster fishery in Lough Foyle, the Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission will have regard to the findings of the Lough Foyle Shellfish Surveys 2000 and 2001, and will, in particular, avoid interference with existing oyster beds during mussel seeding operations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29004/01]

I can confirm that the findings of the Lough Foyle Shellfish Surveys will continue to be taken into account by the FCILC and all agencies involved in developing and conserving the native oyster and mussel fisheries in the lough.
