Vol. 544 No. 5

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with three different topics. I propose to deal with these topics separately and I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

In regard to the first topic I have received notice from Deputy Clune. I call on Deputy Clune to state the matter.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the statement by Aer Rianta that the proposed £100 million investment at Cork Airport will be put at risk if the development at pier D at Dublin Airport goes ahead.

Having given the matter full consideration I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

In regard to the second topic I have received notice from Deputy Healy. I call on Deputy Healy to state the matter.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for a constitutional amendment to guarantee the rights of people with special needs, including the right to a free primary education without reference to age.

Having given the matter full consideration I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

In regard to the third topic I have received notices from Deputies Sargent and Joe Higgins. I call on Deputy Sargent to state the matter.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the shortcomings in Government policy relating to hospital waste given the latest discovery of another unauthorised super dump, this time near Baltinglass, County Wicklow, containing confidential records and operating theatre derived body fluids and tissues, the setting out of a new strategy for ensuring full traceability of medical waste and full use of safe, sustainable, non-incineration, hospital based technologies, and bringing the law to bear on those responsible for this outrage.

I call on Deputy Joe Higgins to state the matter.

(Dublin West): I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the discovery of the second unauthorised dumping ground for medical and hospital waste in Wicklow, the need for a national audit of how medical and hospital waste is treated and disposed of, and the need for a comprehensive policy based on sustainable and environmentally sound principles.

Having given the matter full consideration I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
