Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Offices.

Denis Naughten

Question:

178 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Finance the progress which the Office of Public Works has made in the provision of new or temporary accommodation for the district livestock office in Roscommon town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29880/01]

The Commissioners of Public Works and the Sisters of Mercy agreed the sale of portion of the convent building and lands at Convent Road, Roscommon town for the development of Government offices in Roscommon town. Prior to conclusion of the legal formalities, the Sisters of Mercy sought to alter the transaction as they wished to retain the convent buildings for their own purposes. The Commissioners of Public Works are happy to accede to their request as the buildings were not necessary for the proposed development to provide offices for the Departments of Health and Children, Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Education and Science, Social, Community and Family Affairs and the Revenue Commissioners. In addition, the Departments involved altered their requirements and these changes are being incorporated in the tender documentation. This process is complete, and tenders will be invited this week that is, the week ending 30 November 2001, for a design build competition.
