Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

274 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the position regarding an appeal against a decision to disallow a carer's allowance payment to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [29827/01]

The person concerned applied for carer's allowance on 24 August. One of the principal conditions for receipt of the allowance is that full-time care and attention is required and being provided to the care recipient. The application was refused as this condition was not satisfied. The person concerned was notified of this decision on 31 October and of her right to appeal. Her case has been forwarded to the social welfare appeals office for determination. The appeals office will be in direct contact with the person concerned in due course.

Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
