Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

Enda Kenny

Question:

282 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if the report commissioned by her into the structural condition of Moorehall, Lough Canna, County Mayo, recommended structural improvements at a cost of £300,000 or reroofing at a cost of £500,000; if she has made an order in regard to the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [30035/01]

The report referred to by the Deputy was commissioned by my Department this year to establish the cost of consolidation works to Moorehall, County Mayo. My Department does not own this site.

The two possible options put forward in the report are: to consolidate the ruin as it stands as a roofless shell at an estimated cost of £365,000; and the construction of a roof to protect the walls and interior of the building at an estimated cost of £532,000.

This report is currently under consideration by my Department.
