Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Legal Aid Centres.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

294 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide resources required by the Legal Aid Board to reduce waiting times at Tralee legal aid centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29645/01]

I can inform the Deputy that vacancies at solicitor level in Tralee Law Centre have now been filled and I understand that over the last month the waiting list in Tralee has been reduced from eight to six months. I expect that, with the improved situation, the waiting list will be reduced further.

I can further inform the Deputy that Tralee Law Centre has been included in the extension of the circuit court private practitioners pilot scheme and it is expected that this will further improve the situation regarding the provision of legal services to clients in the Tralee catchment area.
