Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Courts Staff.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

296 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will investigate claims made by persons (details supplied) regarding treatment by staff at the public office at Dolphin House Court; if he will intervene in this particular case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29856/01]

The management and administration of court offices is a matter for the Courts Service which I established as an independent statutory body in November 1999. In the circumstances, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the case referred to by the Deputy.

However, I have referred the details of the case referred to by the Deputy to the Courts Service for its attention and have been informed that it will contact the complainant to ensure that the matter is fully investigated.

The Courts Service has also informed me that it is very conscious of the need to provide members of the public with a professional, efficient and courteous service. It is particularly sensitive to the needs of the public in family law cases and has introduced a number of major improvements to the facilities at Dolphin House and to the provision of services by the staff including training for staff in dealing with such delicate and sensitive issues.
