Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Austin Currie

Question:

358 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the inadequacy of the psychological service at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 22; the way in which he will remedy this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29898/01]

The service provided by the National Educational Psychological Service Agency of my Department to the school was unfortunately suspended for a number of years due to an unforeseen career break. I am pleased to report that earlier this year it was possible to assign a newly appointed psychologist to the school. It will, however, take some time before the backlog of assessment and other work can be dealt with.

NEPS management will conduct a review of the cases cited by the school and will decide, in consultation with the school authorities, on any additional provision in terms of psychological support that may need to be made.
