Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

David Stanton

Question:

85 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the meetings or briefings she has had concerning the possible re-opening of the rail link to Midleton, County Cork; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29770/01]

My Department was represented on the advisory group for the development of the Cork area strategic plan which, I understand, was recently adopted with some amendments by Cork Corporation and Cork County Council. Central to the strategic thrust of the plan is a proposal for the development of suburban rail services linking Blarney, Cork and Midleton. Iarnród Éireann expects to be in a position to commence shortly a detailed feasibility study into the potential for developing these rail services. The matter has been the subject of meetings I held with the Midleton Railway Group on 18 October 2000 and the Blarney Development Group on 7 December 2000.
