Vol. 545 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment Support Services.

Seán Power

Question:

98 Mr. Power asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her plans to provide greater access to employment for people with disabilities; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29632/01]

My plans to provide greater access to employment for people with disabilities are based on a range of commitments, set out in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness, to develop the skills of people with disabilities, raise awareness amongst employers of the contribution which people with disabilities can make and provide specific employment supports for people with disabilities and employers.

I am arranging to forward to the Deputy a report which was recently submitted by my Department to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business. The report sets out in detail the progress which has been made in enhancing training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities since policy responsibility for this area transferred to my Department in June 2000.
