Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

John Ellis

Question:

219 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange for repayment of tax to person (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [30820/01]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer has applied for tax repayments in respect of (a) one-parent family allowance/tax credit – 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 tax years – and (b) the rural renewal scheme 2000-2001.

The taxpayer's one-parent family allowance claims for 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 have been processed and refund cheques for £707.60 – 898.47 and £989.92 – 1,256.94 are being issued to the taxpayer.

The inspector of taxes does not have sufficient information to finalise the taxpayer's tax liability for 2000-2001. The inspector cannot calculate the amount to be repaid to the taxpayer until her liability for the year is finalised. This cannot be done until her rural renewal scheme claim is processed. Processing of that claim has been delayed because the inspector does not have sufficient information about the cost of the taxpayer's property. The inspector has been in contact with the taxpayer's agent in that regard.
