246 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children if University College Hospital Galway has a vascular surgeon at present; if the hospital had a vascular surgeon in March 1996; if the hospital had a 24-hour vascular surgical cover in March 1996; if the hospital now has 24-hour vascular surgical cover; if the hospital had facilities to perform limb angiograms in March 1996; if there has been enhancement of limb vascular treatment facilities at the hospital from March 1996 to date in 2001; the protocol in place at the hospital in April 1996 for helicopter transfer of patients to Dublin hospitals; and if such a protocol has changed since March 1996. The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board to reply to the Deputy directly and outline the position in relation to the issues raised.
