Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Aid Project.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

267 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Health and Children when grant aid will be made available from the national lottery for a childrens' playground at Mountbellew, Ballinasloe, County Galway; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Western Health Board has given its approval for the project; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that land has been made available for the project locally; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30816/01]

My Department received an application for a grant from the 2001 Health and Children allocation of national lottery funds on 8 January 2001 from the organisation referred to by the Deputy.

I would like to inform the Deputy that there is a set protocol in place for processing applications for national lottery grants. When an application is received in my Department it is registered in the finance unit and forwarded to the relevant services division for its assessment, evaluation and recommendation. All applications are then considered in the context of the recommendations and the overall level of funds available.

The organisation is seeking funding towards the development of a playground and the purchase of equipment. The application is under consideration for a grant from my Department and the organisation will be informed as soon as a decision has been made.
