Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Doctor on Call Service.

Seán Ryan

Question:

279 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will report on the doctor on call service in Balbriggan, County Dublin, with a view to modifying the scheme. [30993/01]

The evaluation report on the doctor on call co-operatives which are operating in the North-Eastern and South-Eastern Health Boards identified them as being "highly significant initiatives for both General Practice and the Health Service as a whole." The current service available to some of the people of Balbriggan is provided by NorthEast.Doc, operated by the North Eastern Health Board with doctors from the Balbriggan area who opted to join this scheme. My Department has received proposals from the Eastern Regional Health Authority in their service Developments plans for 2002 to establish a co-operative to serve the catchment area of Balbriggan.
