Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

347 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding an application by a person (details supplied) in County Kildare for a grant for child care providers at a crèche in Straffan, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30476/01]

As the Deputy may be aware, capital grant schemes for self-employed child care providers are part of the Government's child care funding initiatives administered under my Department's equal opportunities childcare programme, 2000-06.

I refer the Deputy to my recent replies to Questions Nos. 955 of 3 October 2001, and 257 of 24 October 2001. I approved a capital grant of £40,000 – 50,790 – to the person concerned under my Department's equal opportunities child care programme. The next step will be the completion of a contract process. The contract will be administered on my Department's behalf by Area Development Management Limited. I have made enquiries with ADM Limited. and have been informed that a letter outlining some pre-contract conditions e.g. bank account details has issued to the applicant.
I understand that when the pre-contract conditions are met, the contract will issue for the applicant's signature. Once the completed contract is received by ADM Limited, the drawdown of funding will commence.
