Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teachers' Pay.

John Bruton

Question:

419 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason incremental credits (details supplied) are not paid in respect of teachers who have worked for a number of years in private second level schools and who are now employed by the Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30809/01]

The award of incremental credit has been the subject of lengthy discussions at the Teachers' Conciliation Council and agreement has been recorded on the majority of issues arising. The matter of awarding credit in respect of teaching service in second level schools, which are not recognised by my Department, is the subject of regular discussion at this council. It would be inappropriate for me to comment further on the matter until these discussions are complete.
