Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Property.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

84 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Gormanston airfield cannot be sold for residential use under existing zoning; and his plans for this facility accordingly. [30250/01]

As I indicated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 69 on 29 November 2001, I have decided to dispose of some land at Gormanston aerodrome to fund equipment purchases for the Defence Forces. The military camp comprising approximately 57 acres and some other areas will be retained. The modalities and timing of the sale are at present under consideration.

The future use of the lands being sold will be a matter for the purchaser in consultation with the local planning authority.
