Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - EU Regulations.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

126 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the procedural steps taken by the European Union Commission under Article 228 of the European Community Treaty to bring the State back before the Court of Justice for previous infringements of Community law from 1 January 2000 to date. [30867/01]

In the period from 1 January to date, one reasoned opinion and one formal notice under Article 228 of the European Community Treaty have been issued by the European Commission and addressed to Ireland. They were both received in July. The reasoned opinion concerns the application of Directive 85/337/EEC on the assessment of the impact of certain public and private projects on the environment and the formal notice concerns the application of Directive 1999/47/EC on the transport of dangerous goods by road.
