Vol. 545 No. 5

Written Answers. - Education Centres.

Brian Hayes

Question:

176 Mr. B. Hayes asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make a statement concerning the position of the Dublin West Education Centre; if he has negotiated a leasing arrangement with this centre; its new location on the grounds of the Tallaght Institute of Technology; and if he will give an indicative date as to when the centre will be opened. [31037/01]

My Department has practically completed the construction of the new Dublin West Education Centre in the grounds of Tallaght IT.

The lease agreement in respect of the land currently held by Tallaght IT has not yet been finalised to the satisfaction of all parties involved. Continuous efforts are in place between the Chief State Solicitor's office and the solicitors acting on behalf of Tallaght IT to resolve these difficulties as a matter of urgency.

Officials of my Department have scheduled a meeting with the director of the Tallaght Institute of Technology with a view to accommodating West Dublin Education Centre in the new building as soon as possible. The Deputy will therefore appreciate that I am not in a position to specify an indicative date as to when the centre will be opened.
