Vol. 545 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Alan Shatter

Question:

178 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction provision of additional classrooms and other essential facilities for Coláiste Eoin and Coláiste Iosagáin, Stillorgan, County Dublin; the reason for the delay in progressing this building project; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are almost 800 students attending the schools and that the facilities in the schools are inadequate. [31039/01]

Stage 6 – tender action and report – documentation was submitted to my Department's building unit in October 2001. The documentation is at present being examined by my Department's staff. The building unit will be in touch with the school authorities shortly in the matter.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

179 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 247 of 21 November 2001, his attention has been drawn to the fact that the school in question has been in temporary buildings for the past five years and that the school's application has been at stage three since July 2001; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the Tánaiste made a statement during the summer that the school would be considered for a public private partnership; if this is the case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31042/01]

I am aware that the school in question is currently housed in temporary accommodation. A letter approving the stage two submission for the new school project was issued to the client, County Dublin VEC, in July 2001. To date, a stage three submission has not been received in the building unit of my Department. This project cannot be considered for the public private partnership scheme as a design team has been appointed and architectural planning has commenced for the project.
