Written Answers. - Performing Arts.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

182 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the work carried out to date in 2001 by the planning and steering group. [31047/01]

The planning and steering group was set up on 27 January 2000 in order to develop, advise on, facilitate and monitor the process of establishing the proposed Irish Academy for the Performing Arts. The group met on a number of occasions and examined a wide range of issues in relation to the establishment, organisation, development and structure of the Irish Academy for the Performing Arts. At its last meeting in February 2001, the group identified two key next steps in the development of the academy, namely the appointment of a governing authority and the appointment of a president. On 30 July 2001, I announced the appointment of Ms Carmel Naughton as chair of the interim governing authority of IAPA. I have since met Ms Naughton to discuss the development of the project and the establishment of the interim governing authority. I expect to be in a position to announce the membership of the authority shortly. The appointment of a president will be a matter for the interim governing authority.
