Vol. 545 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nuclear Emergencies.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

110 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she is in receipt of a report on the recent review of emergency procedures in the event of a nuclear attack or accident; if she will publish the report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [31143/01]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 51 and 87 on 27 November 2001.

As I mentioned in that reply, I expect to have around the middle of this month the consultants' report on the recent exercise to test the national emergency plan for nuclear accidents. Any appropriate amendments to the plan on foot of the report will be carried out. At this stage, I cannot say if the consultants' report will be published. The nature and content of a report such as this will need to be taken into consideration before any decision could be made as to its publication.

As I also mentioned in my reply to Questions Nos. 51 and 87, preparations are well in hand for the design, printing and distribution of the booklet containing the full plan and a summary of the plan and distribution of both these documents will take place early in the new year. It is the intention to distribute the summary of the plan to every household in the country.
