Vol. 545 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Seán Ryan

Question:

111 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the number of quality bus corridors in operation in Dublin; the date on which each was opened; the number of additional buses allocated for use on each such corridor; the number of additional passengers being carried on each such corridor; the estimated reduction in bus journey times on each such corridor; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [31176/01]

The Minister for the Environment and Local Government provides traffic management grants to the Dublin Transportation Office, DTO. These grants enable local authorities in the greater Dublin area to carry out necessary capital works for the development of quality bus corridors. The DTO is responsible for strategy on quality bus corridors, while their implementation is a matter for the local authorities involved. I have no function in the matter. The allocation of buses to particular routes is a day to day responsibility of Dublin Bus.

Question:

112 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the number of additional buses acquired by Dublin Bus in each of the past five years; the cost; if all these buses have been brought into operation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [31177/01]

The following table sets out the number of buses purchased by Dublin Bus over the past five years. These buses were funded from a combination of Exchequer, EU and CIE own resources. The deployment of buses is a matter for the company. The National Development Plan 2000-2006 provides for the purchase of 775 new buses for Dublin Bus over the life of the programme. The deployment of buses is a matter for the company.
