Vol. 546 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disability Support Service.

Michael Noonan

Question:

159 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will continue over the next five years, core funding of a transport service for people with disabilities (details supplied) to allow this service to continue; if the funding will be inflation-proofed to allow for future development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31241/01]

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that £350,000 is currently being provided by my Department for the organisation in question for 2001 and that a sum of £370,000 will be provided in 2002. My Department's multi-annual budgeting for the years 2002-2004 includes a proposal for the continued funding of this organisation, with a slight increase provided for over that period which may allow for inflation. As with all proposals for funding provided within the multi-annual budgeting system, continued funding is dependent on a number of factors, including value for money, no policy change in respect of the provision, the organisation's compliance with the relevant public financial procedures governing such grants and the availability of exchequer funding within the overall exigencies of public finances.
