Vol. 546 No. 1

Written Answers. - Anti-Social Behaviour.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

160 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will investigate a case of anti-social behaviour which is causing a problem for local residents and traders at a location (details supplied) in Dublin 8. [31242/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that gardaí from Pearse Street station police the location in question, which is a complex containing a number of business premises. Homeless people tend to congregate in the yard of this complex and have been a source of nuisance to the traders who operate there. Recent security improvements on the advice of the gardaí have helped to alleviate the problem. I have been further informed that all patrolling gardaí pay extra attention to the location in question, and they are backed up by gardaí attached to specialist units, which include detective personnel, the divisional task force, the drugs unit and the community policing unit. I am assured that where breaches of the criminal law are detected, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.
