Vol. 546 No. 1

Written Answers. - Educational Projects.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

176 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on St. Paul's Youth Encounter Project, Finglas, Dublin 11 in respect of their premises; if it is proposed to relocate this project to prefab accommodation in the grounds of the Finglas Children Centre; his views on whether such a location will be inappropriate in view of the nature of this project; if alternative proposals have been considered by his Department; if he will report on all possible sites owned by his Department or the St. Lawrence O'Toole Trust in the Finglas area; if he will pursue alternative locations with a view to identifying a suitable and appropriate site for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31196/01]

I have been informed that St. Paul's Youth Encounter Project, Finglas is currently located in a small building which is regarded as unsuitable. Following a request by the trustees, my Department is examining the possibility of re-locating the project to alternative premises. In consultation with the trustees, it has been decided to provide temporary accommodation on a portion of the site of the national assessment and remand unit in Finglas. This option is now being explored in greater detail and my Department will be in contact with the trustees when the details have been finalised.
