Vol. 546 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

John Browne

Question:

186 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education and Science the date the board of management of Askea primary schools, Carlow town, applied for a renovation grant; the date approval was given; the works for which approval was given; the date this approval was later withdrawn; the date approval was again restored; and the reason therefor. [31275/01]

Architectural planning for refurbishment works, including roof replacement, at Askea boys and girls national schools, Carlow town, was initiated in January 2001. In October 2001 my Department authorised the school authorities to proceed to invite tenders for the roof replacement element of these works. Following receipt of the tender report from the schools consultant architect my Department issued a letter to the school authorities in November 2001 authorising them to accept the lowest tender for these works.
