75 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn by Iarnród Éireann to plans to close down further sections of the rail network; the details of same; her views in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [31184/01]

I have been assured by the chairman that CIE has no intention to close down any part of the rail network, which is in line with a Government decision of March 1999.

I have also been advised that where freight only lines have recently lost their traffic to road transport, Iarnród Éireann continues to maintain these lines in working order, in the event of freight business returning to these lines.
