Vol. 546 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

David Stanton

Question:

87 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if his attention has been drawn to the fact that errors have been inadvertently made by farmers applying for milk quota due to the fact that the units of measurement have been changed from gallons to litres; if he will take these errors into account in future leasing arrangements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31340/01]

I have not been made aware of problems arising for farmers applying for milk quota as a result of using litres as a unit of measurement instead of gallons. My Department will deal sympathetically with any cases brought to its notice.

Michael Creed

Question:

88 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when application forms will be available for the distribution of the additional milk quota under Agenda 2000; and if this quota, when distributed, will be in the ownership of the successful applicants. [31345/01]

Recently I announced a scheme for the allocation of approximately seven million gallons to certain small and medium scale active milk producers who had farm development plans in the early 1980s or whose herds were adversely affected by animal disease in the late 1970s. Application forms for this scheme are available from my Department or from co-operatives/dairies. The closing date for receipt of application forms under this scheme is 31 January 2002.

Milk quota allocated under this scheme will only be available to recipients while they remain in milk production. Where a producer who has had the benefit of additional quota under this scheme ceases milk production and the milk quota transfers by any means, other than by inheritance or a transfer similar to inheritance, the milk quota allocation granted under this scheme shall revert to the national reserve.
