Denis Naughten

Question:

130 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development his views on whether the current structure of funding provided by the Western Development Commission through loans and equity are feasible in developing community and voluntary projects; his plans to review this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31554/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 129 and 130 together.

My Department is providing £25 million for the western investment fund over the period up to 2006. A sum of £5 million for the western investment fund was provided in the Vote for my Department in 2001 and this was increased to £5.15 million for 2002.

I am advised by the Western Development Commission that nine community projects have been approved for assistance totalling £638,500 from the western investment fund to date. I am asking the WDC to convey to the Deputy the details of projects involved.

No decision has been taken by me in relation to any possible review of the operation of the WDC.
