Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mental Health Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

189 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he has taken to ensure that prescribing practices used in psychiatric clinics do not encourage lifelong attendance. [31433/01]

In order to discourage lifetime attendance, it is policy to refer patients attending psychiatric clinics back to their general practitioners following consultation and advice, except where patients are deemed to need ongoing specialist psychiatric care. Efforts continue to be made to engage general practitioners in increased involvement in the ongoing care of psychiatric patients.
