Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Willie Penrose

Question:

199 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if a consultant endocronologist will be appointed to the Midland Health Board area; if so, when the appointment will be made; if a counselling service will be provided for diabetics, across this geographical area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31516/01]

The Midland Health Board has submitted proposals to my Department for the creation of a number of additional consultant posts, including two consultant endocrinology posts.

The financial determinations for 2002 for each health board and the Eastern Regional Health Authority have issued recently from my Department. Officials of my Department will be meeting with the Midland Health Board in January 2002 to discuss the board's service plans in the context of its letter of determination. The board's additional consultant manpower requirements will also be discussed in this context.
