Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

John Perry

Question:

332 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 363 of 26 June 2001, the progress he has made on the provision of adequate facilities in Ballymote Garda Station; when a decision will be made; the negotiations which have taken place in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31511/01]

A number of options to enhance the current Garda accommodation at Ballymote require to be fully considered. Earlier this year the Office of Public Works was requested to negotiate with the adjoining property owners with a view to obtaining the required extra space to allow the Garda station to be adequately developed. Very recently, that office was requested to examine the option of purchasing a premises in the town which could be suitable, with necessary refurbishment, for a Garda station. Accordingly, the accommodation requirements of Ballymote Garda Station will be further considered on receipt of that office's advice.
