Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John Bruton

Question:

421 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide additional learning support teachers to St. Finian's primary school in Killyon, Hill of Down, County Meath; if he will report on his initiatives to provide additional learning support teachers in the area; his plans to split the cluster and to appoint a new learning support teacher to Boardsmill, Longwood and Killyon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31790/01]

The school in question currently has the services of a shared learning support post. Available learning support teacher posts have been allocated as part of the process of extending the learning support service to every primary school in the country with a pupil teacher ratio of 10:1 or above.

However, I assure the Deputy that the learning support teacher needs of the area in question will be taken fully into account in the event of additional learning support teacher posts becoming available for distribution.
