Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jim Higgins

440 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in approving the extension at Scoil Íosa, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo. [31948/01]

The accommodation needs of this school are being reviewed in my Department. As part of this review, the school's current and projected enrolments and staffing levels are being considered. Together with an inspector's report, this process involves a detailed analysis of enrolment and demographic trends in the general area and of the capacity of existing schools to meet demand.

A report on the matter is now to hand and a decision on the school's long-term accommodation requirements will be made and notified to the board of management as soon as possible.
