Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Foreshore Licences.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

79 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if the foreshore licence to Cork County Council relating to the Warren Strand, Rosscarbery, which was approved in August 2000, has been finalised; the level of funding he will provide for coastal protection works which are required there; and the amount of such funding. [31469/01]

As I explained in my reply to a previous question from the Deputy in the matter on 30 of January 2001, Parliamentary Question No. 201, I have approved the granting of a foreshore lease to Cork County Council to enable important coast protection works to be carried out.

Cork County Council subsequently sought an amendment to the terms of the lease which has been the subject of discussions between the council and the Office of the Chief State Solicitor. I understand that the issues involved have now been fully clarified and that the matter will be resolved shortly.

As regards the question of funding for the coastal protection works, the position is that this project will be given priority by my Department.

Question No. 80 answered with Question No. 76.
