Vol. 546 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Ivor Callely

Question:

101 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the con ditions which were attached to the North Fringe Sewerage; the agreements in place with adjoining local authorities; the accommodation between Meath County Council and Fingal County Council; if there is adequate capacity to meet demands; the requirements of Meath County Council; if such requirements can be accommodated; when such agreements and capacity issues will be resolved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31988/01]

The north fringe-northern interceptor sewer was approved by my Department in accordance with normal procedural and administrative requirements of the water services investment programme. The sewer is designed to relieve overloading of the existing north Dublin drainage system, and to provide capacity for future development and growth in the administrative areas of Dublin Corporation and Fingal County Council. The relevant construction contracts are being undertaken by the Corporation in accordance with an agreement with Fingal County Council under section 59 of the Local Government Act, 1955.

I understand that there are no proposals at present for the sewer to serve any areas of County Meath.
