Vol. 546 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

110 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for a carer's allowance. [32070/01]

The person concerned applied for carer's allowance on 16 November 2001.

However, the medical details submitted in the application were insufficient to determine whether the person being cared for requires full-time care and attention. A more comprehensive medical report form was therefore sent to the person concerned on 4 December 2001, for completion by the care recipient's doctor.

When this medical report is completed and returned, her application will be further considered and she will be notified of the outcome. Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
