Vol. 546 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Cultural Institutions.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

36 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the position of her consideration of the report received from the Office of Public Works, Dublin Corporation and the National Theatre Company regarding the options which might exist in regard to the acquisition of site space adjacent to the existing Abbey Theatre site with a view to developing a new landmark theatre at this location; when she expects to bring proposals to Government; the discussions she has with the board of the Abbey Theatre on this issue; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [31811/01]

I am currently considering the report which the Office of Public Works has provided to me on the available options for addressing the enhanced accommodation needs of the National Theatre. As part of this process I met with members of the board of the National Theatre Society on 21 November. When I have completed my consideration of the Office of Public Works report I will bring proposals to Government and will enter into further discussions with the board of the National Theatre Society.
