Vol. 546 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

79 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance the progress on the provision of a new Garda station at Castleisland, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31990/01]

The gardaí are currently housed in temporary premises following an arson attack on the main station. The commissioners have been requested to acquire a site for a new station because the existing damaged station has no future viability. To this end the commissioners are advertising requirements in both the local and national press.

When an appropriate site or building is acquired, a new station for Castleisland will be included in the commissioners' Garda building programme. The timescale will depend on the priority accorded to the project by the gardaí in the context of their own priority list.
