Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

129 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance if, further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 228 of 16 February 1999 and 103 of 20 April 1999 and 85 of 6 May 1999 and Adjournment Debate on 2 March 1999, he has received a report from the interdepartmental group reviewing this scheme; if so, if he will publish the report; his proposals to amend the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32196/01]

The Deputy is referring to the interdepartmental review of the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' tax concessions scheme which is being chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

I have not received the final report and recommendations of the review group. However, I understand that the work of this group is at an advanced stage. Any proposals – whether to widen the scope of the scheme or otherwise – which may emanate from the review group will receive full consideration. Until such time, no amendments to the scheme will be considered. The report will be published once the deliberative process is fully completed.
