Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Websites.

Question:

180 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of hits received by his Department's website for the year 2001; the number of staff assigned to maintain the website; the cost of maintaining the website for 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32472/01]

The Department of Health and Children maintains a number of web sites, the main site being www.doh.ie.

Full figures for 2001 are not yet available. Based on statistics supplied by our Internet ser vice provider, the average number of hits per day is in excess of 15,000. Daily hits of over 48,000 have been recorded, depending on departmental activity, such as the recent launch of the health strategy.
Maintaining the main site requires one whole-time equivalent member of the IT unit staff. The cost for maintaining the main site, hosting etcetera, but excluding staff costs, is approximately £3,500, 4,444.
