Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Education Allowance.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

202 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the position regarding an application under the back to education allowance by a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [32223/01]

To qualify for participation on the back to education allowance scheme an unemployed person must, inter alia, be in receipt of a relevant social welfare payment for at least six months – 156 days – immediately prior to commencing an approved course of study.

The person concerned was not in receipt of a relevant social welfare payment prior to participation in a course of study and, under the rules of the scheme, is not therefore eligible for the allowance.
