238 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of unlawful killings reported here in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32436/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of violent crimes ending in death, murder and manslaughter, recorded to date in 2001, as of 11 December 2001, and in each of the previous four years, is as listed in the following:
