Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

242 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider increasing the number of gardaí in the various stations in north Kildare with particular reference to Leixlip, Celbridge, Maynooth, Kilcock and Clane; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32440/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that Celbridge, Maynooth and Clane Garda stations are in the district of Naas. Kilcock Garda station is in the district of Ashbourne and Leixlip Garda station is in the district of Lucan.

The current personnel strength of each of these districts as at 1 December 2001 is as follows:

Ashbourne

69

Lucan

155

Naas

118

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that Garda management is satisfied that current personnel strength at Leixlip, Celbridge, May nooth, Clane and Kilcock Garda stations is adequate to meet the present policing needs of these areas.
However, the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next becomes available the needs of these areas will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
