Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Websites.

Question:

253 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of hits received by his Department's website for the year 2001; the number of staff assigned to maintain the website; the cost of maintaining the website for 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32476/01]

The Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform website was redeveloped during 2001. The most recent hit rate metrics available for the new site are for the period from 12 July to 6 November, during which the site received 200,493 hits. Extrapolating from these figures, it is estimated that the total number of hits for the website for 2001 is approximately 636,000.

No staff are assigned to maintenance of the website on a full-time basis. The redesign of the website will allow potentially all staff across the Department to publish directly to the website. Currently, one staff member at EO analyst level and one staff member at HEO level are assigned part-time to maintenance of the website.

Expenditure on hosting, support and maintenance charges for the Department's website for 2001 to date is IR£13,823.80, excluding staff time.
